Understand

What an extract shows, and who can obtain it.

What does the extract contain?

The proceedings brought against the person in the office's district, in principle over the last five years, with their status, as well as certificates of unpaid debts and bankruptcies. It does not show proceedings in other districts: a recent move can hide some.

Art. 8a para. 4 DEBA

Can I request the extract of a prospective tenant?

Yes, provided you make your interest plausible: the signed rental application is enough. Without that document, the office refuses. The applicant can also order it themselves and hand you the extract. For a customer who does not pay, the formal notice to pay is the step before enforcement.

Art. 8a para. 1 DEBA

Does a paid proceeding remain visible?

Yes, for five years, with its status. Since 2019, an unjustified proceeding can be made invisible to third parties at the debtor's request if the creditor has not initiated the procedure to lift the objection.

Art. 8a para. 3 let. d DEBA

FAQ

Questions about the debt enforcement extract

Which documents must I provide?

For yourself: a copy of your identity document, handled as explained on the Data and security page. For a third party: your identity document and proof of your interest (rental application, contract, quote, invoice) or the person's signed power of attorney.

Which office is competent?

The one of the person's current domicile, or of the company's seat. We determine it from the municipality you indicate. For a company, the commercial register extract gives the seat and completes the file.

Why does yours cost more than the official 17 francs?

Because we do the errand, check the documents, follow up with the office if needed and deliver by email, often the same day. The official fee is included in the price, and our guarantees refund you if the office refuses. To check an entire company and not only its debt enforcement record, the verification file cross-checks five sources.
